Long before the Two Kingdoms existed, the land was kept harmoniously together by a single woman with brilliant teal twintails. A Saint, or a Goddess, nobody was sure of her true identity. Despite her unknown origins, everyone unanimously was sure she was the perfect ruler. Kind and benevolent, she was able to solve problems big and small with a simple smile or a song. She became overwhelmingly popular in such a short time. People all over the land were asking for her presence and while someone like her can handle pressure like no other, it is still a tough trial to deal with alone.
As her duties increased, so did her stress. In order to help keep peace throughout the land, she elected five individuals she trusted more than anyone else in the world. A beast, two twins, an archer, and a sea fairy. They began to be known as the Five Figures of the Goddess. Over the course of a month, the six of them debated amongst themselves how to split the land in a fair manner. They eventually came to an agreement, and the land as a whole was nicknamed 'Sekai Kingdom' as suggested by the twintailed woman.
The twintailed woman was appropriately given the largest section to watch over. It would be the center capital of the land of the Sekai. She named it Hatsune- The first sound of the land. From there, the rest of the land was divided out evenly amongst the rest of the figureheads under the levelheaded judgement of the twintailed woman.
Phoenix Wonderland was the only piece of the divided subsections whose name has not changed over time. The figurehead who watches over Phoenix Wonderland, was born with Beast in her blood. She does not discriminate and does not turn away anyone, even so, one will find that a majority of those who live in her land, are also Beasts. Those that are similar, seek solace with each other.
The next two sections were coowned by the twins. One twin took charge of the North, whilst the other graciously accepted the South. The true names of these subsections would be lost to time, and the North and South would slowly evolve into one of the two big Kingdoms in the land. It is now modernly known as the Hanasato Empire.
The archer begrudgingly agrees to his section, the smallest out of everyone's. Unlike the others, who all host an abundance of individuals and catered mainly towards their respective people, his land focused solely on the protection of the Sekai Kingdom. They were the ones who were more politically inclined to take by force if negotiations did not work. While the twintailed woman was uneasy about his brutal nature, she also knew from experience that he was a great ally if war was ever on the horizon.
Finally, the sea fairy would take the last piece of land. Unfortunately, like so much about the sea fairy himself, information about the fairy's land is almost impossible to locate unless one is personally connected to royalty and has access to the guarded, hidden archives located in deep within the library of Tenma Territory.
The agreement of how the lands were split would keep everyone happy for several decades. But as history shows, peace cannot always be kept. A simple meeting between the Five Figureheads quickly turned into a verbal, vicious argument. The opposing sides being the archer, who was notorious for his temper, and the sea fairy, whose only known trait was it's amicable nature. It is unknown what spurred on this brutal argument, but what was to follow would permanently mark a change in the course of the Sekai's history.
Late into the night, hours after the argument, the smell of smoke began to permeate in the air outside of castle grounds. The beast, who would often stay up longer than most, sensed danger, and used her heightened senses to track down the cause. As she traveled further into the depths of the Kingdom's surrounding forests, she came upon the burning corpse of the sea fairy, tied up, and unable to be saved.
The beast ran back to the castle to alert the twintailed woman and the other Figureheads of the sea fairy's death. Immediately, due to the circumstances in the earlier meeting, the archer was accused of murdering the sea fairy, though records state he claims innocence. Whether or not he was does not change the fact that the first major murder of Sekai had occurred, and it was one of the well-loved Figureheads. Against the wishes of the twintailed woman, he was publicly hung. The remaining Figureheads argued they needed to set an example to keep peace.
This did not go over well with half of the citizens, who saw these Figureheads as pure of heart and never expected them to resort to violence. The other half of the population, supported the hanging, all for different reasons. The divide between the population and their views on what they wanted for their futures, grew further and further as time went on. Despite all her efforts, the twintailed woman was unable to stop a war from breaking out.
The First War, and only war, in the history of the Sekai, was a massacre. Bards would spin tales about the battlefield being so bloody, it seeped into the streets that everyday citizens walked for years after. The children would innocently play and splash in the blood of men while their mothers weeped over the death of their husbands. Famine took hold quickly. If one wasn't dying on the battlefield, they were instead dying from starvation.
After the twins were murdered by the beast in one of the many battles, the twintailed woman had enough. She couldn't bare to see her once-beautiful land fall apart at the hands of war so easily. The records are conflicting as to where and the manner of which she announced the peace treaty. Some say she walked barefoot in nothing but a nightgown in the middle of the last ongoing battle with a fire in her eyes, others claim an official gathering was planned by her in the middle of town and she was as regal as she always appeared to be. Only one detail remains the same throughout all the stories. The treaty was announced from her own mouth, and she was completely defenseless if someone were to attack her.
The treaty proposed only a few things, but the main point was the question of who the citizens wanted in power and what they wanted for the future of the land. It would come down to a vote, a box would be guarded by the beast, and counted publicly, in the interest of fairness, by her as well. There was a catch to this vote though. The twintailed woman stated the identity of the successor they were voting for was to be kept a secret from the public until the very end. They were to be judged only by their personal values.
The twintailed Goddess would go on to explain why she should be kept in power. None of her values from before had wavered even with the new experience of war. She proposed logical solutions to the new problems they had been experiencing, and addressed the main worries of her citizens with a warm smile. If they voted for her, she could guarantee their lives would be full of peace. After she was finished with her side, she took out a folded piece of parchment and once unfolded, she delved into the values of the other candidate.
This candidate held values similar to the late archer. They were strict, no-nonsense ideals that held no room for error. Like the archer, the focus was on the protection of the citizens more than the happiness of them. However, they also promised an abundance of food and wealth for all. While the citizens might not necessarily be happy under the secret candidate, they would be near guaranteed safety and security for the future.
Some citizens rightfully complained about the second candidate being kept secret, but most were intrigued. The twintailed Goddess was not someone who went back on her word. She was painfully honest to the public about every move she had made, and they trusted her even in these trying times. They wanted someone to believe in again and the candidates each appealed to their respective sides the war had created. Their trust in her, splintered as it was, allowed for the war to be completely halted while the vote was ongoing. It was now a matter of waiting for the quiet majority to state their personal preferences through their votes.
The voting took place over two full weeks, the day after the treaty was proposed. The only campaigning either candidate was allowed, were their ideals plastered around the Kingdom and in front of the locked voting box so citizens could be informed when coming to their own conclusions. Once the two weeks was up, the beast, flanked by two Kingdom guards as witnesses, from sunrise to sunset, began counting and tallying up each vote out loud to the public. This process took three full days and once everyone saw who the clear winner was, she began the process all over again for another three days.
The winner did not change, nor did any of the numbers from the first total. The twintailed Goddess had an overwhelming victory, and would remain in power until her dying days. Immediately after her victory was announced, she stuck to her promises and began to clean up the mess the war made. It took six additional years to fully recover from the war, but the twintailed Goddess's efforts to show how much she truly loved the land, were stronger than what had been previously broken. Nobody is certain whether the second candidate actually existed or not, but the majority was fine with being kept in the dark about it, so long as the twintailed Goddess kept her promises.
Many things were lost to time, such as the original recorded names of the subsections, or a majority of factual information on the sea fairy. This did not slow down the twintailed Goddess. She saw it as a new beginning and welcomed the small changes with practiced ease. She believed it was better to move on from the past and live with the future in mind, even if the past held precious memories. People of the future may forget some of the land's history, but she would hold onto it, and she saw that as being enough.
There are almost no written records of the Sekai, after this new era begins. If there were any, they are long gone now. Many historians of the land attempt to string together what little information they do have, and make as best of an educational guess as they can. Historians generally agree the war cleanup marked a significant change for the land. Life did indeed get better for the citizens. The land's subsections were adjusted, and two major territories stubbornly persisted all the way to the present. There are multiple notable families that govern smaller sectors inside the two kingdoms.
The bigger of the two in the northern direction is Tenma Territory. The Asahina's and the Yoisaki's are two names to keep an eye out for when visiting the Territory. The smaller southern end is known as the Hanasato Empire. The Hoshino name is the only important one to remember when talking about these notable families residing in the Empire.
And if one is curious about believing in fairytales, they may be interested to hear about the Ootori family. A family of beasts governing a mysterious section of land that was lost to time. They say those who wander past what's known as "The Point of No Return" will stumble upon this lost land and be awarded with riches beyond their wildest dreams. But those who have wandered into "The Point of No Return" have, as one might have guessed, never returned to confirm if this tale is true. As stated before, it is a fairytale told by parents to their children before bedtime, to warn them about the dangers of wandering too far away from home.
Everyone's opinion on what happened to the twintailed Goddess, however, is mixed. There's no clear cause of death, nor was a body buried anywhere. Some claim the twintailed Goddess was a myth in order to push the religion that worships her and that the war was a made-up story. Some claim she was a normal woman with incredible speaking prowess. They say she accidentally grew a following and eventually was crowned the unofficial Queen before dying in a very normal way, old age. And some, very few, seem to believe she's somehow still walking among the citizens all these centuries later. Afterall, a land with such a mysterious forgotten past can't be accepted as normal, it has to be supernatural. How can the land be kept in peace for as long as it has? According to whispers, its the work of the ghost of the twintailed Goddess, continuing her duties even in the afterlife.
